perfect type of flooring in halls, foyers, living rooms

x 4” x 5” Or wider plank leads itself to the
informal areas of the home. You will therefore see this
type of flooring in the kitchen, den and family rooms.

A waxed floor
should be biffed twice a year. This type of finished floor
is losing favor with homeowners because of the maintenance
difficulty.

Maintenance
of a polyurethane floor is very easy. We recommend a 1/4
cup of “Poly Care” in a gallon of warm water
and the use of a damp sponge mop. This can be done as
frequently as twice a week.

In lieu of
a special cleaner, two tablespoons of white vinegar in
a gallon of warm water with a sponge mop works very well.

Never
use products such as Murphy’s Oil Soap, Top Job,
Pledge, etc. on your floor. These products contain wax
and soap that will leave behind a film on your floor.
Into that film dirt will be attracted and trapped layer
upon layer. This will compromise the polyurethane finish.

There’s
a major movement away from dark stains, as they tend to
make a room feel smaller. Natural finishes and light stains
are very popular and tend to expand space and create an
open atmosphere.

Oil based polyurethane
finishes tend to add a deeper richer texture to wood floors.

If you have
your kitchen floor installed with hardwood, be sure to
have it screened and a fresh coat of polyurethane put
on it four years down the road. This will remove grease
build-up, remove scratches and cover over any excessive
wear areas. This inexpensive maintenance procedure can
save you from a costly refinish bill and extend the beauty
and durability of your floor.

Most homes
in the northeast with hardwood floors benefited by a dehumidifier
to their basement. This will help to stabilize the excessive
amount of moisture in the house, particularly in the summer
months!
